An exciting opportunity has arisen within Stockport’s Youth Justice & Complex Safeguarding Service for an experienced and dedicated Youth Justice Social Worker. This is a dynamic, multi-agency service focused on preventing offending and reoffending among children and young people, with a strong commitment to a ‘child-first’ approach.
The Role
As a Youth Justice Social Worker, you will manage a diverse caseload while taking specialist responsibility for children who are remanded in custody and subject to Looked After Children procedures. The role includes:
Undertaking assessments and managing complex cases
Planning and delivering targeted interventions to reduce offending
Preparing high-quality reports and sentencing proposals for Court
Representing the service in Court as required
Working closely with victims, families, and carers to provide holistic support
Collaborating within a multi-agency setting, including police, probation, and health colleagues
Your work will contribute directly to the safety of victims and communities, promoting desistance through strength-based and evidence-informed practice.
About You
You will be a qualified Social Worker with:
Experience working within youth justice or a similar statutory setting
Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed practice, and systemic approaches
Ability to form constructive relationships with children, families, and professionals
Confidence in navigating complex legal and safeguarding frameworks
Commitment to promoting inclusion, reducing stigma, and addressing disproportionality within the justice system
