Social network you want to login/join with: Job Title: Software Engineering Manager (Embedded/Firmware Hands-Off) Location: Cardiff Reports to: Director of Technology About the Role We are seeking a hands-off Software Engineering Manager with a background in embedded systems and firmware development to lead and grow a high-performing engineering team in a highly regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, automotive, aerospace, defence, etc.). This is a strategic and leadership-focused role, ideal for someone with a strong technical foundation who thrives on enabling and developing others to deliver excellence. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop a team of embedded software/firmware engineers. Oversee project planning, technical delivery, and team performance without direct coding responsibility. Collaborate cross-functionally with product, hardware, QA, and regulatory teams to ensure cohesive delivery. Champion continuous improvement, agile practices, and engineering process maturity. Support recruitment, onboarding, and talent development within the team. Ensure all development aligns with relevant standards (e.g., ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 62304, etc.). Key Requirements Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or Technical Leader in embedded/firmware software. Strong understanding of embedded systems development, even if not hands-on in current role. Demonstrated leadership in a regulated environment (medical, automotive, aerospace, etc.). Deep understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), particularly in compliance-heavy contexts. Experience managing cross-functional engineering teams in agile or hybrid environments. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and coaching skills. Experience working with regulatory audits or certification processes. Background in systems engineering or integration. Familiarity with tools and languages commonly used in embedded development (e.g., C/C++, RTOS, ARM Cortex, etc.). Exposure to cybersecurity standards for embedded systems (e.g., ISO/SAE 21434).
