Network Engineer

Job Summary​

A Network Project Engineer is responsible for the successful planning, implementation, and management of network projects. They work closely with various teams, including IT, engineering, and operations, to ensure that network infrastructure is designed, installed, and maintained to meet organisational needs.​

Key Responsibilities​

Project Planning and Management:​​

Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets.​

Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and define project scope.​

Manage project resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.​

Monitor project progress and make necessary adjustments to stay on track.​

Network Design and Implementation:​​

Design and engineer network infrastructure, including hardware, software, and protocols.​

Collaborate with network architects and engineers to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.​

Oversee the installation and configuration of network equipment.​

Test and troubleshoot network systems to identify and resolve issues.​

Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting:​​

Monitor network performance and identify potential problems.​

Implement preventive maintenance procedures to minimize downtime.​

Diagnose and resolve network issues, including hardware failures, software bugs, and configuration errors.​

Provide technical support to users and other IT staff.​

Documentation and Reporting:​​

Create and maintain detailed documentation of network infrastructure and processes.​

Prepare regular project reports, including progress updates, status summaries, and financial information.​

Required Qualifications​

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.​

3-5 years of experience in network engineering or a similar role.​

Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching).​

Proficiency in network design and configuration tools (e.g., Visio, Cisco Packet Tracer).​

Experience with network monitoring and management software (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).​

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.​

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.​

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. ​

Preferred Qualifications​

Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIA.​

Experience with cloud-based networking solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure).​

Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).​

Additional Skills​

Strong attention to detail.​

Ability to adapt to changing technologies and industry trends.​
