Role Description Job Purpose: Contribute to optimal efficiency of specific line(s) by focusing on quality, production, hygiene, housekeeping and any relevant machine issues. Required to lead and develop an Engineering shift team. Provide assistance and advice to other areas regarding serviceability of plant and equipment. Through effective leadership, high business performance should be achieved, in terms of quality, cost and delivery. Activities should focus on shift maintenance activities, whilst building on key elements of continuous improvement, ownership and team development. This role supports the overall site delivery and engineering department to ensure quality, legality, food safety, brand integrity and culture is driven and compliant. Dimensions Contribute to delivery of production plan in line with budgeted targets. Leading an Engineering Team consisting of 5 members, on a rotating shift pattern. Team and individual performance measures are determined by site Key Performance Indicators (KPI s) and by the ability to carry out the duties listed below. Principal Responsibilities Quality RFT (right first time) achieve set targets. Maintain plant to the required 5 s standards and adopt the clean as you go policy . Maintain personal hygiene standards in accordance with company procedures. Be aware of personal impact on environment and end users e.g. effluent/waste/customer complaints. First communicate and co-operate with colleagues to achieve goals and maintain product quality. Accurately complete all reporting and recording procedures applicable to designated tasks. Monitor and maintain product quality standards to maintain product Food Safety, Legality, Integrity, Authenticity and Quality standards by ensuring all associated policies and procedures are adhered to. Cost Minimise wastage through the efficient use of all materials used in the Product Cost Chain which are measured through yields and variances. Contribute to achieving FVO targets through efficient use of all utility consumption e.g. gas/oil/compressed air/electricity. Make best use of the store s equipment, using the correct procedures. Delivery Contribute to the achievement of OEE business targets through the delivering of an effective personal performance to the required standards. Document and report faults/problems and actions taken / to be taken to rectify. Set & adjust - processing and packaging equipment documenting any changes made. Repair and maintain plant and equipment according to planned schedules or requests. Completing all instruction/service documents for planned maintenance and machine logs for repair maintenance. Monitor efficiency of production equipment and identify problem areas, proactively produce and implement improvements and modifications. Collecting and communicating key issues and identifying actions against top issues daily for the review meetings. Ensure utilisation of labour to provide adequate shift coverage, including day to day communication with operational areas to supply all engineering services required. Prioritising and balancing running and planned work, using information and data available. Implement all planned maintenance for the site, ensuring that work is carried out to the required standard and all records are kept up to date. Effectively coach, develop and communicate on one to one and team bases, such that individual/business developments and requirements are clearly understood, and proactive maintenance activity is promoted. Safety and Environment Ensure you undertake your role safely and adhere to all site controls and safe working practices. Understand your individual impact on the environment and what can be done to reduce this. Ensure PPE is always worn in accordance with site procedures and processes. All employees should carry out their duties in a responsible manner giving due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which are part of the Integrated Management System. Contribute to the health & safety of self and others by applying health and safety principles to the required standards whilst undertaking designated tasks. Ensure the workshop area and any areas where maintenance is taking place is kept clean in accordance with the clean as you go policy. People Be aware of your impact on pence per case (PPC) and attend work regularly and on time to keep costs to a minimum. Respect your colleagues, peers and the Company. Challenge existing practices making recommendations for improvements. Perform any other duties required by your Manager. Transfer knowledge to colleagues. Manage and develop personnel in accordance with HR policies and procedures to maximise job performance and potential. Role Requirements Experience Essential: Have 3 years experience of FMCG food products and packaging. Have led a multiskilled shift team to success. Well-versed within electrical controls, electrical system and mechanical fault finding. A proactive attitude towards continuous improvement projects/tools (5S, Root Cause, TPM). Drive strategic decisions to maximise production up time and minimise losses. Fosters teamwork and collaboration with all departments to generate a can-do environment. Desirable: Experience in maintaining accurate records including filing and archiving systems. Skills Essential: Be literate and numerate so that checks can be carried out and recorded accurately and legibly. Be flexible in their working hours to ensure that cover is maintained. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. Be competent in all the major computer packages i.e. Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to accurately record data and produce required reports. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills which are essential for effectively dealing with customers, internal departments and suppliers. Desirable: Have experience of SAP Maintenance Management systems. Knowledge Essential: Hold a formal Engineering Qualification relating to the discipline (i.e. City and Guilds or TEC certificate). Have received basic food hygiene training. Be aware of emergency procedures. Be aware of safety implications of hazardous materials used and the precautions necessary for their use. Have received manual handling training. Understanding of equal opportunities and anti-discrimination practices. Be aware of correct PPE usage and storage. Have training in management of Health and Safety. Desirable: Be aware of company policy regarding Quality, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety and Personal Hygiene. Be aware of emergency first aid techniques including electric shock and resuscitation.
