The team is responsible for delivery of design services across our markets of Water Infrastructure, Defence Infrastructure, Nuclear, Aviation, Energy, Rail (stations), and Urban Developments. We have an exciting vacancy within the Infrastructure PDP and are seeking an enthusiastic and confident Engineering / Design Manager to join our North, Scotland, and Northern Ireland (NS&NI) practice, based from our Manchester office. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a talented individual who wants to take the next step in their career and take responsibility for projects from inception through to completion. You will be an established Engineering / Design Manager within the infrastructure sector this role offers the chance to develop your career and expand your experiences across a wide range of challenging and exciting projects across varied markets. The position is likely to combine agile working from our NS&NI offices with time at client offices and sites. Our need to recruit comes from the success of our division and our pipeline and expected growth within the Northern regions across a variety of sectors, predominantly in Nuclear, Defence, Energy and Water to which this role is focused. A role within the Infrastructure PDP offers the opportunity to work on the full suite of projects AtkinsR alis delivers be it refurbishment and new build projects nuclear new build defence water projects and many more, which will enable you to demonstrate and progress your project management skills, knowledge and experience. You are likely to have several years of multi-disciplinary infrastructure engineering delivery experience, ideally from within a consultancy environment. Working with the support of the PDP team, you will be responsible for delivering schemes to budget and programme through RIBA Stages 0-7 (or the sector equivalent) and be the person responsible for delivering engineering packages. Responsibilities: General Responsible for authoring and maintenance of a robust Design Management Plan, drawing contribution from the discipline leads in accordance with governance processes. Contribute to the production and development of the Project Execution Plan. Ensure all discipline leads have contributed to the production and development of the project BIM Execution Plan appropriately. Ensure the implementation of an agreed platform for project collaboration is in place. Deliver the Basis of Design. Ensure Technical Quality Assurance/Control processes are in place. Develop, manage, and track the list of deliverables. Develop simple, effective technical delivery processes to improve the production of design deliverables to time, cost, and quality. Ensure that all key design decisions and requirements are clearly captured and documented through agreed tools or forms. Stakeholder Work collaboratively with the Project Manager and discipline leads in communicating with client stakeholders where additional scope is occurring. First point of contact to coordinate the resolution of technical issues. Host stakeholder meetings to ensure full involvement in the developed design process and that operational requirements are integrated into the design. Lead and facilitate meeting actions and close out. People Lead, motivate, and mentor the multi-disciplinary design team. Provide multi-disciplinary linkage between the delivery teams. Ensure effective communication within the team, using tools like Teams, in person workshops, etc. Liaise regularly with discipline leads to manage resources and coordinate with the Project Manager. Provide input to annual performance reviews for multi-discipline staff within the team. Commercial Contribute to identifying commercial and technical risks. Ensure the scope and level of design information are executed. Agree on programme and key milestones, including model releases. Coordinate commercial arrangements with teams, document, and instruct accordingly. Monitor resource requirements and ensure discipline leads have access to adequate resources. Ensure delivery to programme and monitor/control budgets. Seek additional workflows to increase revenue, working with the Project Manager to ensure contract and programme adjustments are agreed upon before project start. Collaborate with the Project Manager to ensure change control processes are in place. Technical / Delivery Capture requirements effectively. Ensure technical competencies are signed off. Maintain compliance with the design brief and contribute to designated parts of the works. Apply and reinforce standard designs and products. Drive efficiency in design programmes through rigorous challenges. Convene cross-team technical meetings for coordination and consistency. Lead multi-disciplinary technical and CDM reviews. Ensure design and output consistency across disciplines. Undertake technical assurance with discipline sign-off. Deliver design reviews internally and to clients/stakeholders. Maintain Configuration Control. Review output quality and sign off within the Delegation of Authority (DoA). Promote awareness of sustainable design and Net Zero principles. Candidate Requirements: Chartered Engineer or Architect or equivalent with experience managing design, build, and/or operate on multi-disciplinary projects. Strong knowledge of system integration concepts, principles, and theories as applied to multi-discipline designs. Understanding of management processes related to technical integration and analytical approaches. Experience with major infrastructure projects. Experience with construction contracts like NEC3 or 4. Self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams. Familiar with BIM and 3D modelling tools for design and coordination. Ability to adapt digital technologies to aid design. Customer-focused with excellent client relationship skills. Detail-oriented, reliable, proactive, and able to work under pressure. Leadership skills to manage and motivate teams. Mentoring skills for team development. Adaptability to different cultures and environments, with strong communication skills. Willing to travel across the UK and work on-site if required.
