Role Overview: We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry to join our reputable team. This role offers a unique opportunity for a passionate psychiatrist to provide expert clinical care, leadership, and advocacy for individuals with learning disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume clinical responsibility for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with learning disabilities, including those with coexisting mental health disorders, behavioral challenges, and complex needs.
  • Provide specialized psychiatric assessments, interventions, and treatments, tailored to the unique needs and abilities of patients with learning disabilities, ensuring a person-centered and holistic approach to care.
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, care planning reviews, and clinical governance activities to ensure coordinated and integrated care delivery, adherence to clinical guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Offer consultation, advice, and support to community teams, residential care facilities, and support services working with individuals with learning disabilities, promoting collaborative working and best practice in care provision.
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to junior medical staff, including Specialty Registrars, Core Trainees, and Foundation Year doctors, fostering their professional development and clinical competency in learning disabilities psychiatry.
  • Engage in research, audit, and service development projects within the learning disabilities psychiatry field to enhance service provision, promote innovation, and address unmet needs in care delivery.

    • Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry.
  • CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in Psychiatry or equivalent, with extensive experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in learning disabilities psychiatry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health disorders and behavioral challenges in individuals with learning disabilities across the lifespan.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with patients, families, and carers.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centered care, promoting advocacy, and championing the rights and well-being of individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and willingness to relocate if necessary.
