Key details Location Site: Lisson Grove Town: London Postcode: NW8 8EG Major / Minor Region: London Contract type & working pattern Contract: Permanent Hours: Part time - 15 hours per week (Monday and Tuesday 9-5) Salary Salary: £50,512 - £75,767 per annum, plus London Zone Allowance (pro rata) Salary period: Yearly Grade: Salaried Dentist - A Specialty Main area: Dentistry Job overview The post holder will work with the Community and Specialist Dental Service Team delivering dental care and advice to adults with special care needs across a variety of clinical settings, including clinic and domiciliary settings. We serve patients from various community groups, including those with additional needs such as complex medical needs, those with learning difficulties, complex social history and the homeless population. Services to be provided include preventive care and advice, dental treatment, care under sedation. The post holder will undertake routine dental care to patients referred to, or accessing, the Community Dental Service. The post holder may also care for patients identified as requiring urgent care by multi-disciplinary teams. Clinical Duties Undertake thorough examination, diagnosis and assessment of patients. Carry out treatment planning and care management for a range of patients. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate appropriate interventions to prevent disease and promote health for individual patients. Identify commonly occurring medical emergencies and lead the dental team in the appropriate first line management of the emergency, using appropriate techniques, equipment and drugs. Use appropriate local anaesthetic and patient management approaches to control pain and anxiety during dental treatment. Use sedation where required. Carry out routine exodontias and/or simple surgical exodontias. Undertake appropriate assessment of patients to determine the need for specialist advice. Undertake appropriate investigations during patient examination to determine the need for specialist advice in the management of the developing dentition. Undertake the diagnosis, selection of appropriate restorative techniques and delivery of restoration or replacement of teeth in an effective way. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Full registration with the GDC. Bachelor in Dental Surgery or equivalent. Proven maintenance of post-graduate continuing professional development. Performer number. Desirable criteria Post graduate qualification. Experience Essential criteria Post qualification experience in the CDS and a proven commitment to a career in the CDS. Demonstrable clinical expertise in dealing with adults with Learning Difficulties and other special needs requirements. Able to work in both surgery and domiciliary settings. Able to respond to health needs in a non biased way. Desirable criteria Previous participation in national epidemiological surveys. Experience of clinical audits. Demonstrable expertise in dental sedation. Skills Essential criteria Understanding of dental services within the NHS. Knowledge of the CDS, its remit and client groups, and how it relates to the GDS. Demonstrable knowledge of current trends, policies and regulations relevant to dentistry. Proven commitment to relevant continuing education. Willingness to keep up to date regarding new techniques and dental materials. Key Attributes Essential criteria Good verbal and written communication skills. A flexible and sensitive approach to working with both patients and staff. Computer literate. Fluency in spoken and written English.
