Description A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Designer located in Telford.
The successful candidate will be dealing with the formulation of mechanical design and manufacturing solutions to support in-service vehicles, their derivatives and support equipment. Undertake the mechanical design tasks associated with the development of specific systems/equipment, involving : Assisting in the analysis of customer requirements and their subsequent decomposition into functional system and sub system design requirements. Generation of design specification and / or CAD design schemes. Definition and control of interfaces via interface control drawings and space envelopes. The generation of design and/or manufacturing detailed design CAD models and drawings. Assisting in the validation of systems / equipment, this may include the generation of test schedules, test and integration plans and the writing/investigation of test problem reports. Ensure that designs produced consider the following: Assisting in trade studies and supplier selection, including: Equipment/supplier surveys and selection. Involvement in the generation of system procurement specifications and schedules of work. Supplier liaison and monitor progress. Participation in internal and external meetings or design reviews with the customer. This may involve : Undertaking technical presentations. Undertaking minor development trials and tests, both in house and at external agencies. The investigation of trials incidents. Attending trials and providing technical advice where required.
The ideal candidate will have been educated to at least HNC level or equivalent in a relevant discipline and have a proven track record in the design of military, construction, agricultural or automotive systems/sub-systems. An engineering apprenticeship or similar training is desirable. Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential, together with a high level of interest in vehicle systems and technical problem solving. The candidate should be a proficient user of a modern 3-D CAD modeling tool such as Unigraphics or Pro Engineer. Experience of PLM systems such as TeamCenter would be beneficial. A working knowledge of ISO, European, BS8887 (MADE), BS8888 (TPS), BS8889 (TPV) and defence standards is desirable
