Description Optical Engineers are now required to be responsible for the design and development of Optical Systems for this company’s LED based product lines. This position involves working as part of a team from product conception to successful operation in the hands of the customer.
The Optical Engineers will have a key role in the company and reporting to the Development Manager your role will involve the LED illumination design for non-imaging optical systems such as architectural and general lighting applications. You will undertake modeling, analyzing, designing, and testing of visible optical systems for LED applications. You will champion development of innovative optical solutions utilising the latest technology while maintaining cost effective solutions. Working closely with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers you will bring quality product quickly to market. Furthermore, you will work with outside suppliers to ensure the best solution for the products. You will use computer assisted engineering and design software to perform design tasks.
Successful candidates will have a degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or a relevant discipline with strong experience in optics. You will be an excellent team player with strong communication and documentation skills and have a thorough understanding of the requirements to successfully develop products to specification and to tight deadlines. Experience with the design and development of LED Lighting, LED Signals or General Lighting within an ISO 9001:2000 environment would be desirable.
Optical Engineers will require specialist knowledge embracing the design of reflectors, lenses and optical solutions. You will need knowledge of semiconductors and semiconductor devices such as LED’s; the use of ASAP or equivalent ray tracing optical analysis software package. You will have experience of solid modeling in a program such as Pro Engineer, Solid Works or equivalent. Knowledge of semiconductors and semiconductor devices such as LED’s are also necessary for this role. Ideally you will also have an understanding of thermal calculations and modeling as well as production experience with optical components. Programming experience such as Matlab, Visual Basic and C would be desirable. Your skills shall enable you to provide an authoritative and professional interface between the company, its customers and suppliers regarding design related issues.
