Product Development Manager – Investment Planning

Morningstar`s Advisor business seeks a Product Development Manager for Morningstar Advisor Workstation Office Edition, a Web-based all-in-one platform for independent financial advisors/planners. We are seeking a knowledgeable, creative expert with a strong background in finance to create and manage the development of investment planning software tools. As the Product Development Manager, you will join a team that is committed to delivering innovative products to our customers, on schedule. This position is based in our Chicago office and may involve minimal travel (approximately 10%).

In the process of bringing products and features to market, this position involves collaborating with people of varying degrees of knowledge, both inside and outside the organization. The Product Development Manager works with customers, sales staff, and product managers to gather and develop business requirements. You will work with research professionals to develop analytical models and prototypes, and designers to complete product feature specifications. You will lead technical and quality assurance teams to deliver quality product functionality. And you will help marketing professionals design marketing and sales collateral, as well as produce webinars. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with data/analytical resource suppliers on product development; conducting product testing; creating support documentation; providing product service and sales professionals with training and technical assistance for new products and functionality; and fostering continuous process improvement.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in finance, economics, mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related field. Experience developing financial software is preferred. The Product Development Manager must have superior analytical thinking and project execution skills. The ideal candidate will be able to research, conceptualize, and objectively evaluate new ideas from the perspectives of the market and financial industry. Candidates must be able to convert business requirements into functional specifications, as well as to visualize interface and navigation solutions. Strong organizational skills and project management experience are also required. Applicants must have excellent communication and presentation skills, creative conflict resolution skills, and the ability to motivate internal and external resources to deliver timely results. Previous management experience is valued, as is experience in working with global teams.
