Job Description:
This is a Division level Manufacturing Engineering position supporting steel products. There are 15 plants worldwide with annual shipments of ~$100M. The position operates under the supervision of the Manager – Global Manufacturing Engineering. Responsibilities include:
  • Investigate, evaluate and implement pertinent advanced and innovative manufacturing technologies. Network with varied external and internal resources to continually identify new opportunities. Lead cross-functional process improvement teams.
  • Develop, implement, and document manufacturing processes. Includes new product development and existing product improvement (productivity improvement, cost reduction, process capability improvement) projects. Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Lead formal projects involving internal and external product transfers. Assure product quality and customer service. Develop plans, budgets, negotiate resources, assign activities, conduct progress reviews, launch corrective actions, and report progress within a structured format.
  • Assess, analyze, and plan plant capacity. Work with plant resources to develop and maintain real-time capacity data. Analyze demand and capacity data and develop appropriate response to capacity shortfalls.
  • Participate in global equipment and process standardization efforts as a technical resource.
  • Machine selection and qualification. Includes machine specification, evaluation, and qualification as well as capital budget preparation and economic justification. Work with Corporate and plant Purchasing on all phases of procurement.
  • Support plant Lean initiatives, plant problem solving, and cross functional Marketing-Engineering-Manufacturing activities as technical resource.


Experience and Skills:
B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of seven (7) years experience in a steel products manufacturing environment.
 
Demonstrated experience and effective application is required in the following areas:
  • Development of manufacturing processes from product designs
  • Manufacturing process innovation and system redesign
  • Project management and team leadership
  • Capacity calculation, assessment, and planning
  • Capital budget preparation and economic justification
  • Product and process cost analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Additional, experience in the following areas is preferred:
  • Managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Supporting diverse, multiple plants
  • Equipment identification, selection, and qualification
  • Basic machining, programming, and work-holding knowledge
