The Software Engineer formulates and defines specifications for all aspects of software engineering. Modifies/maintains complex existing applications using engineering releases and utilities. Responsible for designing and documenting software applications using accepted best practices in software engineering. Responsible for applications dealing with various operating systems. Competent to work at the highest level on all phases of software analysis, design and programming. Provides work leadership for lower level employees. Other Considerations: Secret Clearance required Willing to travel occasionally (1 or 2 times a year) for periods of up to 2-3 weeks. Domestic and Foreign. Available outside standard work hours with advance notice. Strong written and oral communication skills desired. Candidate may interact verbally and in writing with DoD civilian and uniformed personnel at installations around the world, often needing to talk though technical issues or walk through procedures with persons with minimal experiences with the subject computer environments.. Candidate must be willing to take on tasks beyond typical software development tasks, including but not limited to hardware installation, troubleshooting and repair, software installations, conducting training, system testing, Selected candidate will be expected to become familiar with the function and operation of all components of the JMINI control system, as well as the basics of UHF DAMA operation. May be expected to become familiar with the details of the DAMA Mil-Stds as required for software development tasks. Can work independently, developing own tasking plans, take initiative as required.

Desired Skills: Familiarity with the following: Developing software for communications/message processing systems TCP and UDP protocols. PL/SQL SQL*Plus Unix and Windows operating systems. Script development using Perl and TCL. XML Oracle's Oracle Containers for Java (OC4J) Database development and management with Oracle 10g or 11g. Development of detailed step by step procedures to be executed by persons with no background with the subject matter. Experience with PKI and other user authentication methods. Web Services/SOAP Directory Services/LDAP SSL/HTTPS

5+ years experience Java/J2EE Software Development experience, including real time and threaded applications. 1+ years experience GUI development with Java, JSP, JavaScript, and HTML. Experience developing web based applications and web services, including developing or configuring web servers and application servers. Experience using software configuration management/version control tools such as CVS, PVCS, RCS or other tools.
