Development Team

The Java Development Team at Booking.com is in charge of developing front-end websites and back-end services to allow on-line booking of hotels directly through our own consumer web sites and our large affiliate network.We use J2EE and a selection of open-source software to implement these technologies, and we pride ourselves on our attention to usability and the efficiency of our service.

Role

The company requires a Java Developer working within the development team, in order to develop and maintain our core technologies.

Reporting directly to the Java Software Development Team Leader, this role will be responsible as part of the Development Team for the maintenance and development of the existing platform, and development in new projects as they arise. Whilst the J2EE platform is the principal focus of the team, other technologies may be employed where appropriate.

The role is based principally in Cambridge, although some travel may be required occasionally, most significantly to the company headquarters in Amsterdam.

Ideal Candidate

This role is ideal for an individual with a degree or equivalent in Computer Sciences (or a similar subject) who wishes to immerse themselves into the commercial dynamics of a successful and rapidly growing company. There will be opportunities to work closely with all departments, in particular, strong liaison with our Web Partner Account Management Team (Distribution). You will have a passion for the internet, be committed and able to work well on your own initiative whilst being an integral part of the Development Team. Excellent communication skills are essential along with wanting to learn, gain exposure and experience in;

  • J2EE - jsp's, ejb's, servlets
  • SQL - mysql and jdbc
  • Struts
  • tomcat/jboss
  • spring
  • junit
  • testing
  • xml
  • html

Product Development

·Work with other developers to design and implement new products and product enhancements

·Implement, test and release code within the company’s agile software development process
