Title: Cognos Report Developer
Location: Ft Washington, PA
Duration: FT direct hire
Responsible for developing business intelligence and reporting solutions that help our end users access and analyze data in a data warehouse, data mart, or operational system. This position will also assist in technical planning, rollout, and support of the front-end of reporting tools throughout the company and will work closely with our business partners, and colleagues in the Application Architecture and Technology Architecture teams.
Principal Responsibilities/Behaviors:
Design and develop analytic and reporting solutions using COGNOS BI8, Impromptu and potentially other standard reporting tools to support customer demands
Maintain the scheduling, distribution, and refresh for reports, views, and OLAP
Provide production support for the reporting and analytic environment including: troubleshooting, new user setup, security, training, performance monitoring
Serve as a technical expert on in-house business intelligence/reporting tool solutions
Provide subject matter expertise, training, and/or development for operational/production reports
Work with data modeler to develop data mart models, design specifications, and metadata documentation
Work with application developers and computer operations to support test and production reporting environments including daily administration, batch processing, configuration management, environment migration, and tool automation
Assist in the development and maintenance of data warehouse initiatives and reporting needs for the business
Must be willing to work extended hours or weekends when necessary to support production maintenance or troubleshoot problems.
Assist in other related work for the Data Architecture & Services Team.
Major Qualifications:
Five years minimum of related IT experience
At least two years experience within the business intelligence and data warehouse environment
In-depth knowledge and at least three years hands-on experience with the COGNOS reporting tool suite (BI8, Framework Manager, PPES, Impromptu, PowerPlay, Cognos Macros) on Windows as both a developer and administrator.
Experience in setting up Cognos BI8 Security
Experience with Cognos Software Development Kit (SDK) to customize reports
Knowledge of Web application server architectures and security systems administration
Expert knowledge of structured query language (Oracle SQL) and PL/SQL
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver presentations
Strong analytic, problem solving, and collaborative skills
Experience in business requirements gathering
Knowledge of standard project development lifecycle concepts
Knowledge and understanding of relational and dimensional data models
Understanding of open database connectivity (ODBC) concepts and ability to troubleshoot client-server connectivity issues
Working knowledge of life insurance business, terms, and processes preferred
Experience with Informatica PowerCenter development is a plus
Experience with Java is a plus
Experience with XML and HTML is a plus
