Description:

The Center for Community-Based Research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks to hire 3 full-time Research Assistants to work 40 hours per week, including some weekends and evenings, on a study of vitamin D in African Americans. This cancer prevention trial seeks to identify the optimal dose of oral vitamin D supplementation, which may reduce the risk for colorectal and prostate cancers. We will be working with housing developments, community centers, YMCA's and other appropriate sites located in the Boston area to identify residents interested in participating in the study. Under direct supervision of the Project Manager and as field staff team member(s), the Research Assistant will be responsible for recruiting and enrolling participants, as well as monitoring participants throughout the study. Responsibilities include: Recruit sites and subjects for study participation. Conduct participation consent process with subjects and their primary care doctors. Contact participants to schedule all study related appointments. Administer study surveys to participants. Assess adherence and side effects with participants, addressing barriers and other issues as necessary. Coordinate and administer prescription refills and delivery to participants. Maintain written and electronic records of contact with study participants. Update the web based participant tracking system regularly. Maintain the security and confidentiality of all study materials and data. Adhere to study protocols. Apprise the Project Manager of any issues related to survey administration, data collection, participant adherence, and safety. Prepare weekly reports for Investigators, attend all study related meetings, and assist with writing meeting minutes for all study meetings. Perform other project-related duties as needed.

Requirements:

Required: Bachelors degree in public health, natural or social sciences; excellent organizational, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills; strong personal initiative, great attention to detail, and ability to work independently; ability to work evenings and weekends; must have access to a car; possess a valid Drivers License with a safe driving record. Preferred: Experience working with underserved communities; prior research experience with a genuine interest in community based research work.
