About the Team

Our team is responsible for designing, implementing, and deploying a worldwide network of client-side download accelerators, integrated with the broader Akamai platform. Our goal is to deploy this client on millions of desktops around the world to provide a faster, more powerful downloading experience. When complete, it will enable a revolutionary advance in data delivery, powering everything from IPTV to software updates from your PC to your settop box.

About the Job

We are seeking an engineering manager with deep understanding of client-side (PC, Mac, Linux) software development and delivery, a passion for rapid development and deployment of your team's software, the curiousity and drive to tackle substantial challenges, and a focus on improving the Internet for everyone. The successful candidate for this position will have a deep understanding of Internet mechanics, a track record of delivery of innovative software solutions at Internet speed. This is a high profile, fast paced position.

Responsibilities

Provide managerial and technical leadership to the client-side downloads team. This includes the working with the engineering team to understanding and evolve the development roadmap and translating business needs to technical requirements and designs to ensure the solution meets customer requirements. Strong communication skills are required to represent team milestones back to engineering and business management.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications

* Education: Master's Degree in Computer Science
* Overall Experience: 5-7 years or equivalent experience
* 2+ years managing a software development team including hiring high-energy software engineers
* A track record of successfully delivering end user * Great work ethic and the desire to work in a fast-paced technology-rich environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

* 5+ years experience developing software in C++ on Windows, Mac and/or Linux.
* Development experience in distributed, grid, or peer-to-peer computing environments.
* Deep familiarity with TCP/IP, HTTP, Internet routing and security protocols.
