The role: Engineering Manager/Director, Google.com
We're looking for highly technical, hands-on Software and Systems Engineering Manager/Directors to lead a team of engineers. The Google.com teams are directly responsible for Google's stellar uptime record, and are the guardians/custodians of the end-to-end performance and reliability of Google's user-facing services. This is a hybrid team (engineering and operations-oriented), consisting of software engineers, systems administrators, and operations architects. In this highly visible leadership role, you will be responsible for ensuring that Google users can always reach and use all of the services under your team's care.
Requirements:- BA/BS in Computer Science preferred; MS/PhD a plus.
- Very high technical competence and strong academic record.
- That rare mix of intelligence, integrity, domain knowledge, verbal agility, and diplomacy which allows you to rapidly earn the trust of technically-astute teams across the company.
- 5-10+ years of relevant management experience of software developers, systems administrators/architects, and hands-on technical professionals in related areas.
- Strong understanding of coding principles and concepts.
- Knowledge of C, C++, or Java, and Shell, Perl, or Python.
- Strong understanding of UNIX/Linux platform.
- 5+ years of relevant hands-on technical experience, and a record of individual technical achievement.
- A solid understanding of IP networking, network devices, and common topologies.
- Skilled in leading projects, especially in deploying live end-user systems.
- Desire for a leadership career which offers the opportunity to remain technically hands-on.
