Job Description:
S1 is a leader in providing software and web applications to the financial
industry. Our technology is used by banks and their customers worldwide
and we are looking for the right people to help us innovate and build the
next generation of banking applications.

The Performance Engineer Lead is responsible for planning, execution,
analysis, diagnosis, and documentation of the activities that ensure our
software suite of products meets or exceeds customer requirements. This
position will work with business analysts, product development, and our
Professional Services (consulting) group to plan and execute performance
tests on a variety of configurations and platforms. The role involves
training others as appropriate and occasional customer interaction.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.

Significant activities include:

-Work with our Professional Services group to continually evaluate our
requirements, approach, and methodology surrounding performance testing
in order to best prepare our applications for real-world production
deployment
-Create test approach documents suitable for sharing both inside and
outside the company
-Use Mercury LoadRunner and other tools as appropriate to develop,
maintain, and execute performance test scripts
-Test applications to verify that software meets or exceeds performance
specifications and standards
-Provide leadership and recommendations on tuning WebSphere (tune or work
with others in tuning DB2, AIX, and other 3rd-party products as-needed)
-Perform initial triage of performance issues encountered during testing
and make suggestions for performance improvements to the Development,
DBA, and other teams
-Work closely with Development to troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct
performance issues
-Use industry standard performance profiling tools to identify the source
of memory leaks, inefficient SQL, and redundant operations
-Participate in operability testing activities regarding monitoring and
tuning of the application, environment, database, operating system,
and/or 3rd party software
-Prepare test results and hardware sizing models for release worldwide
both inside and outside the organization
-Work closely with Professional Services to accurately determine the
hardware requirements for customers
-Support development of training materials and train-the-trainer courses
for our Professional Services, Customer Support, and customers

Education:

BS in Computer Science or related discipline from a four-year college or
university

Experience:

•4+ years in a performance testing-oriented role
•4+ years experience with application profiling tools
•2+ years development experience with Java development (Senior Developer
skills are not required, but familiarity with the Java programming
language and understanding program flow are essential)
•2+ years development experience with SQL
•2+ years experience with IBM WebSphere application server configuration,
clustering, and tuning
•Experience in both Unix and Windows operating systems
•Experience with Mercury LoadRunner
•Experience with Quest PerformaSure or a similar helpful
•Experience with Quest JProbe or a similar product helpful


Other Skills and Abilities -Computer Skills, Programming, Software,
Equipment, etc.:
IMPORTANT: This is a technical position that requires more than just
recording and executing LoadRunner scripts. The successful candidate will
have a demonstrable background in troubleshooting performance issues and
environment tuning within an Enterprise/J2EE environment. Strong verbal
and written communication skills required.
