POSITION SUMMARY:

The Build and Release Analyst is responsible for application software builds in Quality Assurance, User Acceptance Testing and Production Environments and the associated preparations and scheduling of releases. Will also audit and monitor status of Release Deployments to insure correct and timely deployments. Will document Change Management Procedures related to application software builds, release preparations and scheduling. Will assist in the management and usage of the Change Management Tools. Will be assigned other duties related to Change and Release Management. Build and Release Analyst will have detailed knowledge of Scottrade's IT infrastructure environment and some sensitive passwords.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Application Software Builds
    • Develop and maintain documentation on all application build procedures.
    • Provide fast turnaround on build issues affecting production applications.
    • Provide production support as it relates to production builds.
  • Release Preparations and Scheduling
    • Create and distribute release notes.
    • Coordinate research on application release build/package issues
  • Auditing and Reporting on Release Deployments
    • Monitor and report on the status of deployment process across multiple servers in multiple data centers.
    • Ensure all documentation and checkpoints have been reached for each step in the application build, release and deployment processes.
    • Assist in the identification and development of metrics to track progress of builds, release packages and deployment processes.
    • Work with Development Staff to manage code branching as it relates to builds and releases.
  • Documentation of Change Management Procedures
    • Develop and document automated build processes. Attend meetings related to change, build, release and deployment as directed.
    • Maintain build and release related Configuration Items (CIs) in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and Service Catalog.
  • Change Management Tool Administration
    • Assist with the development of new Change and Release Management processes, procedures, and methodologies based upon ITIL principles.
    • Assist with risk analysis on Request for Changes (RFCs).
    • Assist with Change and Release Management documentation and controls being reviewed by internal and/or external auditors.
  • Other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills
  • Ability to compile application source code written in C++ and/or Java into builds for Quality Assurance (QA), User Acceptance Test (UAT), and Production Environments.
  • Ability to create application release packages and schedule the deployment of these packages.
  • Ability to debug build and release problems.
  • Ability to provide fast turn around on build issues affecting production applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated and willing to do what is required to get things done.
  • Soft skills: accuracy and consistency oriented, organized, self-motivated, team-player, and efficient
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to write items such as reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers or management.
  • Understanding of stored procedure deployments to SQL Server and Oracle databases.
  • Knowledge of Version Control Software
  • Knowledge of ITIL V2 or V3 Foundation preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret charts, graphs and spread sheets
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) and MKS Integrity software tools.
  • Intermediate proficiency with VSS and CVS.
  • Intermediate proficiency with the following operating systems: Windows, Linux and OS/400.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Foster company success through a professional appearance, being courteous to customers and all Scottrade associates and by having a positive attitude.
Required Experience
  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems or a similar field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 3-5 yrs experience in field of study preferred.
  • Extensive experience scripting builds, release and deployment processes.
  • Experience with C++ and Java build tools.
