Summary:Under general supervision of the Team Leader Publishing & Printing Systems, the Publishing Systems Engineer I & II will be first level response for electronic publishing issues including Windows, Word, Excel and other Microsoft applications as used in a publishing environment; PageMaker, Quark, Illustrator, and other traditional off-the-shelf publishing applications used in Health Plan - basic maintenance of document composition tools; and other related electronic publishing issues as required. The Publishing Systems Engineer III & IV will be second level response for hardware and software related electronic publishing, programming, development, and deployment of print streams within, and other related portions if existing electronic publishing software packages.
Qualifications:Levels I & II Associate of Science degree in Computer Science or Electronic Printing, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of three year's progressive experience in computer science, electronic publishing, or related field. Must be knowledgeable of publication layout and design, and possess excellent proofreading skills. Must display creativity and competence in design techniques. Experience in object oriented design thinking and methodologies, gained through experiences programming in an object-oriented language, or other qualified experiences. Familiarity with database structures: SQL, Oracle, DB2, or similar. Familiarity with XML, SGML, HTML, or similar data structures. Familiarity with JAVA, or other web programming language. Familiarity with Control-D. Similar systems considered. Demonstrated proficiency in desktop publishing, word processing, and electronic office systems. Should display a high degree of professionalism and be able to establish effective working relationships with all levels of internal staff and outside professionals. Must possess strong organizational skills, be able to prioritize assignments and handle confidential information with discretion. Must have good visual acuity, manual dexterity and be capable of operating a keyboard and type with accuracy. Must display an ability to "think outside the box."Levels III & IV - requires similar minimum qualifications, as well as: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Electronic Publishing, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of three year's progressive experience in computer science, electronic publishing, or related field. Experience in graphic arts, desktop publishing, visual communications, or similar discipline. Experience in Visual Basic, C (or derivations thereof), Java (or derivations thereof), or similar advanced programming languages. Object oriented programming language experience and knowledge a plus. Experience in structured systems analysis and design, user relations, data gathering techniques, and management information systems. Experience in Microsoft Solutions Frameworks helpful. Experience with Xerox LCDS printstreams and associated structures and resources highly desired. Knowledge of Control-D desired. Similar experiences considered. Must possess high degree of logic, accuracy, and communications skills.
