Title: Ignition Controls Engineer - Development
Function: Engineering
Location: Columbus IN

The qualified candidate for this position will have the following responsibilities:

* Obtain new ignition component designs and samples, such as coils, electronic modules, and spark plugs
* Specify bench and engine tests for ignition components
* Analyze component failures and work with suppliers to develop and implement corrective actions
* Analyze test data and generate conclusions based upon statistical results
* Create technical reports documenting work and results
* Create and hold technical design reviews on new products or changes
* Write engineering releases that adhere to product definition standards and guidelines
* Define engineering requirements specifications for ignition components
* Visit suppliers and end-users (customer) as appropriate to support product development
* Prepare and present monthly status updates to cross-functional teams
* Work closely with cross-functional groups such as mechanical, performance, controls, service, marketing, and sales.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
** BSEE or MSEE Required**
* Capability of understanding electrical and electronic systems and their interactions with engine systems
* Ability to problem solve and determine corrective actions with suppliers
* Ability to write engineering releases, specifications, and standards
* Possess good communication skills - oral, written, and presentation
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Capable of handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
* Self-motivated - able to plan work independently and deliver on task commitments
* Able to troubleshoot component, system, and engine problems using 7-step problem resolution process

Preferable Skills and Abilities

* Experience with spark-ignited components or engines desirable but not required
* Six Sigma experience desirable but not required
* Actively looks for continuous improvement opportunities
* Work effectively in cross-functional technical groups/teams to ensure the team's success
* Work closely with suppliers to deliver reliable products per the schedule
* Take ownership responsibility for assigned systems and components
* Manage suppliers to deliver excellent quality and meet their promises
* Provide a positive example for others
* Create DVP&R plans with suppliers
